We took a trip to the Lombard public pool with our friends the Martins. This pool was unlike any public pool I ever went to as a child. It had 3 waterslides, a zero depth entry with spray fountains, a lap pool and high and low diving boards! The girls thought it was so cool.

Both girls were excited to try jumping off the low diving boards, but were scared to try the high dive, that is until Jen offered Madeline $5!
Madeline knew that $5 was a LOT of money. She knew that she could buy 5 things from the Target dollar section with it.

3:56 pm - Seconds later, Madeline was on the high dive, but she just couldn't do it.
She was so torn. She really wanted the $5, but it was a really long way down to the water.

4:00 & 4:02 pm - Attempts #2 & 3 went the same way.
They both ended like this...

4:09 pm - Attempt #4
To sweeten the deal, Jen said she'd jump off the high dive if Madeline did it. Didn't work.
By this time, other people lounging on the pool deck had started to take an interest in what Madeline was doing.

4:13 pm
Finally the lifeguard gave Madeline a little pep talk...and she did it!
Jen and I clapped and cheered for her as did several other spectators.

Madeline got out of the pool and without saying a word just looked at Jen and motioned to the high dive. Jen lived up to her end of the bargain. The other spectators clapped for her as well.
