Madeline and Mallory had a
great time in their swimming class. Friday was the last day. I cannot believe how much they learned. When they started, neither one of them could swim at all. Now, both of them can streamline and
back float. Madeline can also back streamline and is learning how to do the front crawl. Mallory can back streamline sometimes, but not consistently.

Madeline was all business when it came to learning to swim. She was very intent on passing from level to level. Mallory? Not so much. Mallory was the child constantly flopping around, looking around at the bottom of the pool and begging her instructor for piggyback rides. In fact, I don't think Mallory had any desire to pass out of Level 1. After all, Level 1 kids got to play with toys like rings and balls. Mallory's favorite toy was a plastic shark, which she named (appropriately enough) "Sharky." According to Madeline, Mallory only passed out of Level 1 because her instructor told her she had to do 10 bubble bobs (the requirement to pass) to play with Sharky!

We ended up joining a local pool while they were taking lessons so that I could help reinforce what they were learning in class. It was a lot of fun for all of us and I think it really helped them. Madeline really wanted to work on the skills she was learning in class. Mallory, on the other hand, liked to practice, but she also taught herself to walk on her hands and was frequently spotted kissing the dolphin at the bottom of the pool. There were days when the girls spent 1 - 1 1/2 hours in the pool with me at night in addition to the 45 minute swimming lessons they had in the morning! They slept well!

Madeline and Mallory did so well in their swimming lessons that we hated to see them end. We're hoping to get them enrolled again in January and then again for next year's summer program.
