She came for one of Mallory's teeth!
In case you were wondering, no the tooth was not supposed to come out yet. The root was quite long in fact. It all started at the end of the year soccer party on a Sunday afternoon. The kids were having a great time. They ate ice cream and pizza and played in the inflatable bouncy houses. We're not sure exactly what happened next, but when Mallory exited the bouncy house her mouth was full of blood and her tooth looked like it was going to fall out.
I immediately called our dentist and we were in her office within 45 minutes. I was sure that the tooth was going to have to come out. I even prepped Mallory for it on the way to the office. However, when the dentist checked the tooth, it barely wiggled at all. She said that sometimes teeth will reattach after an injury. She told Mallory to eat only soft foods for a few days and hopefully everything would be OK.
Everything was OK, until Wednesday (three days after the inital injury). On Wednesday afternoon, Mallory and Brianna were lying in my bed watching a movie. Brianna got angry and kicked Mallory in the mouth and dislodged her tooth. That resulted in a lot more blood and another emergency trip to the dentist. This time there was no saving the tooth. The tooth was almost completely out and the dentist was able to extract it with nothing but her fingers. And so, at 4 1/2 years old, Mallory lost her first tooth.
Mallory has enjoyed telling everyone the story of her missing tooth. She asked me the other day if her tooth was still going to be gone when she starts school. (She wants to show her friends that she lost a tooth.) Fortunately for her, she will probably have a missing front tooth for the next 3 years!
