Scott and I had a great time in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. We spent 5 very relaxing days there. The weather was perfect - sunny and low 80's. By the end of the trip, we were both anxious to see the kids, but we were certainly not ready to go home - especially since we heard we'd be coming back to snow! The hotel (RUI Palace) was gorgeous. This is the second all-inclusive hotel that we've been to and we are big fans. It's so nice to eat and drink whatever you want whenever you want without worrying about the cost. The buffets were great and we had some really good sushi and some crazy gourmet fusion food (including a tomato-watermelon slushie-like drink - sounds weird, but it was actually really good) at the specialty restaurants.
We also enjoyed the hotel entertainment. There was an entertainment staff of about 5 people. They were easy to pick out in their white t-shirts with "Entertainment" printed on the back in red letters and matching red shorts. They ran the water aerobics classes, the water volleyball tournaments, the drinking contests, the soccer games and of course the nighttime entertainment. They put on a "Broadway" revue that, while certainly not Broadway caliber, was very entertaining nonetheless.
This pool was beautiful. There was a bench at the end of the pool just under the surface of the water. You could sit there overlooking the beach.
This is how I spent my time. I read four books and drank an unknown (but very large) number of margaritas that were served poolside. Scott read two books and drank an even larger number of margaritas. Gotta love all-inclusive hotels!!(Mimosas for breakfast, margaritas by the pool, champagne and wine for dinner and coffee with Bailey's at night!)
Ah, the beach. It's very pretty isn't it. Our hotel was located in "The Corridor" between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. We were told that we could walk along the beach to downtown Cabo San Lucas in about 30 minutes. Well, I think it took about 45 minutes and it was not a pleasant 45 minutes. The sand on this beach is quite coarse. We tried to keep our shoes on, but decided that was actually worse because then the sand got trapped between our shoes and our feet, so we walked it barefoot. Along the way, we renamed the beach "Torture Beach." (Scott likened walking on the beach to a torture Jack Bauer would endure on an episode of 24.) Had it not been for the fact that we spent all the money we brought to town on sunblock and souvenirs for the girls, we certainly would have taken a taxi back to the hotel. But no, we had to walk all the way back. Scott ended up with 4 blisters on one foot! For the rest of the trip, "We could take a walk on Torture Beach..." was a standing joke. We did not walk on it again. The thought alone was painful. We did, however, enjoy downtown Cabo. We hit the flea market area and got some cute sundresses for the girls. On the other side of this ridge is the famous arch separating the Sea of Cortez from the Pacific Ocean. We didn't see it, but we knew it was there.
What is this? Well, it's towel art of course! Each evening when we came back to our room we found towel art on the bed. What's not to love about that!
